Jayapura – The Secretary General of the Indonesian Red and White Front Papua (BMP-RI Papua), Ali Kabiay, affirmed that the Papua Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU) decision declaring the MARI-YO pair as winners of the 2025 gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU) is valid and final.
This refers to the Constitutional Court’s Ruling No. 03/PHPU.PRES-XXIII/2025 dated February 24, 2025. In point 6 of the ruling, the Court ordered that the re-vote must be completed within 180 days of the decision and that the results should simply be announced by the KPU without the need for further submission to the Court.
“Based on that Constitutional Court ruling, the KPU Papua’s declaration of MARI-YO’s victory is valid, final, and binding. There is no longer any legal avenue to bring this matter back to the Constitutional Court,” Ali Kabiay stated in Jayapura on Wednesday (August 20, 2025).
He further emphasized that the decision should serve as a momentum for all parties to respect the democratic process that has been carried out in accordance with the law. “It is time for all of us to unite behind the elected leaders for the sake of Papua’s better development,” he added.
