Jayapura – Senior leader of the Evangelical Church in Indonesia (GIDI), Rev. Iker Rudy Tabuni, has called on Papuans to accept the results of the gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU) with sincerity and maintain peace. He underlined that whoever is elected is the legitimate governor for all people of Papua.
“Whoever is chosen as governor is our leader in Papua Province. Whatever decision is made represents our collective answer and hope,” Rev. Iker said in Jayapura on Tuesday (Aug 20).
He stressed that both the church community and Papuan society as a whole must prioritize dialogue and unity over political conflict. “To the church, congregations, and all communities, let us receive any decision with a peaceful heart. The security situation is currently stable and under control, and we must preserve it together,” he added.
Rev. Iker further highlighted the importance of peace as the foundation for Papua’s development. According to him, security is not only the duty of law enforcement but also the shared responsibility of all believers and communities across different groups.
“Security is our collective responsibility. Through peace, we can continue our lives—worshiping, working, and building a better Papua,” he emphasized.
With this appeal, he expressed hope that church leaders and congregations alike will continue to uphold brotherhood, mutual respect, and stability for the sake of Papua’s future.
