Deiyai, Central Papua – The security situation in Deiyai Regency was disturbed again after two motorcycle taxi drivers became victims of brutal persecution on Monday (8/18/2025). One victim was critically ill, while another died. This incident caused unrest among the public, especially motorcycle taxi drivers who daily activities in Tigi District.
The first case of persecution happened to Agus Hariono (46), who was found lying helplessly in the bushes behind the BPJS Waghete office. He was immediately evacuated by the joint Operation Peace Cartenz and Deiyai Police to the Waghete Hospital, and until now he is still in critical condition.
Not long ago, officers received a similar report in the Waghete II area, Tigi District. The second victim, La Kafi, was declared dead while in the hospital. These two consecutive incidents caused deep grief for the victim’s family as well as concern for the local community.
From the initial investigation, the authorities strongly suspect that this violent act was carried out by an armed group affiliated with Armed Criminal Group Nokai Deiyai, Kodap XXXI, led by Jhon Badii under the structure of TPNPB Goliat Tabuni. The apparatus also increased their vigilance and carried out sweeps at several vulnerable points.
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the state is here to protect the community from all forms of terror.
“We have sent a team to uncover and arrest the perpetrators. There is no tolerance for brutal acts that result in the loss of life. Public safety is our top priority,” said Brigadier General Faizal, accompanied by Wakaops, Kombes Pol Adarma Sinaga.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations Ops Peace Cartenz, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., invited the entire community to remain calm, alert, and not be provoked by the growing issues.
“We appeal to the people of Deiyai to work together to take care of the kamtibmas. If there is any information regarding the existence of an armed group, immediately convey it to the security forces. Community participation is very important to break their space of movement,” he said.
The apparatus also emphasized that legal steps will be taken professionally and transparently, so that the public does not need to be afraid. On the other hand, the local government together with the security forces will strengthen coordination to ensure that economic activities, including motorcycle taxi transportation services, remain safe.
This incident is a reminder that the threat of violence from armed groups is still real. However, the apparatus emphasized that the law enforcement process continues and efforts to maintain peace in the land of Papua are still carried out in order to create a sense of security for the entire community.
