Director of Papua Observatory for Human Rights (POHR), Thomas Ch. Syufi: After Papua Gubernatorial Election, Maintain Public Order and Prioritize Human Rights

Jayapura – Director of the Papua Observatory for Human Rights (POHR), Thomas Ch. Syufi, has called on all Papuans to safeguard security and public order (Kamtibmas) following the Papua Gubernatorial Election. He emphasized that the people’s vote is an expression of human rights (HAM) guaranteed by law.

“The voice of the Papuan people is a right protected under human rights law. Therefore, whoever is elected as leader, that is the people’s choice to build Papua,” Syufi said on Tuesday (19/08).

According to him, the principle of respecting human rights must remain a priority in every democratic process in Papua. Syufi underlined the importance of all parties accepting the election results without actions that could trigger conflict.

He also urged the public to fully entrust the election process to the official authorities. “Let us maintain security and public order, and place full trust in the authorized body, namely the General Elections Commission (KPU),” he stressed.

Syufi expressed hope that the gubernatorial election would not only serve as a democratic festivity, but also as an opportunity to strengthen unity among Papuans in realizing sustainable development.
