Jayapura, Monday (August 18, 2025) — Head of Public Relations of Papua Regional Police, Police Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, S.I.K., M.K.P., has called on communities within the Papua Police jurisdiction to continue safeguarding public security and order. The appeal was delivered following a peaceful and orderly situation observed before, during, and after the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day.
According to Commissioner Cahyo, security conditions across the three provinces — Papua, Central Papua Highlands, and South Papua — remained relatively stable and under control. This, he emphasized, was achieved thanks to the active participation and cooperation of all societal elements in maintaining peace.
“We urge all layers of society to preserve the conducive atmosphere that has been established. Do not be easily provoked by false information, hate speech, or hoaxes circulating on social media. Let us filter before we share,” he stressed.
He further underlined that maintaining security and stability is a collective responsibility, not solely that of the police force. Collaboration with traditional leaders, religious figures, youth, and other community groups is deemed crucial to prevent potential disturbances.
In addition, Papua Police reminded the public to remain vigilant against attempts by certain parties to exploit the post-Independence Day momentum to spread provocative issues. Law enforcement will take firm action against any violations that threaten public order.
“We hope the community continues to uphold unity, mutual respect, and work together to keep Papua safe and peaceful. Security is the foundation for regional development and public welfare,” Commissioner Cahyo added.
With the current stability, Papua Police extended appreciation and gratitude to the public for their active role in maintaining security. The police reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing services, ensuring protection, and remaining present among communities to sustain long-term public safety.
