Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day Celebration in Girimulyo, Nabire, Highlighted by Colorful Carnival

Nabire — Thousands of residents in Girimulyo, Nabire Regency, poured into the streets on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 16) to celebrate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day with a vibrant carnival. The event featured colorful parades, unique costumes, and live music that energized the crowd.

Girimulyo Village Head, Ferdinant B. Pattiruhu, said the carnival was both a form of gratitude for independence and a way to strengthen community unity. “Through this carnival, we hope the spirit of nationalism continues to grow and that we always honor the sacrifices of our heroes,” he said.

Echoing the sentiment, Girimulyo Community Police Officer (Bhabinkamtibmas) Aiptu Herman noted the carnival was more than entertainment. He called it a display of solidarity among residents and a tribute to the nation’s fighters for independence.

Event Chairman Muhammad Al Amin said this year’s celebration was the most festive yet, with participation reaching into the thousands. “Our hope is that this tradition will continue to be preserved as a way to uphold unity and strengthen national values,” he stated.

The festivities concluded with the announcement of winners for the cleanliness competition and the carnival contest, with organizers presenting awards as a gesture of appreciation for the community’s active participation and spirit of togetherness.
