Two Personnel of Brigade Mobile  Area Battalion C Nabire Died Attacked by Armed Criminal Group Led by Aibon Kogoya

Nabire, Central Papua – Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz personnel conducted a crime scene related to the brutal attack carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Aibon Kogoya against two members of Brigade Mobile Area Battalion C Nabire. The incident occurred when the victim was on duty in Siriwo District, Nabire Regency, on Wednesday (8/13/2025) around 10.50 WIT.

The results of the crime scene revealed that the perpetrators were suspected of being members of the Armed Criminal Group Aibon Kogoya shooting at the two victims, Brigpol Muhammad Arif Maulana (34) and Bripda Nelson Runaki (26), the shot immediately paralyzed Bripda Nelson who fell at the location, while Brigpol Arif was also targeted. Witnesses had seen the two unknown people armed with long barrels, dreadlocks, and wearing shorts, going down the hill on the right side of the scene.

The attack also resulted in the loss of two AK-101 long guns, six magazines, and one body vest. The evidence that was successfully secured included nine 7.62 mm caliber bullet casings, nine 5.56 mm caliber shells, two victim’s cell phones, a headset, and one projectile found on Brigadier Arif Maulana’s body.

The two deceased are known as police figures who like to socialize and are friendly to the public. This can be seen from the many residents at the place where the deceased is on duty feeling lost, the two deceased are also the backbone of the family, both of them carry out their duties sincerely in remote areas with all their limitations.

Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operations Peace Cartenz, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum, expressed his deep sorrow and affirmed his commitment to law enforcement.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of the two best personnel who died while carrying out state duties. Firm and measurable steps will be taken to pursue the perpetrators, especially the Armed Criminal Group led by Aibon Kogoya, as well as ensuring security in the region,” he said.

Head of Public Relations Operation Peace Cartenz, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and vigilant.

“We invite all people to stay calm and alert. Fully entrust the pursuit and law enforcement process to the security forces. Security is a shared responsibility, and community cooperation is very important in keeping Papua safe,” he said.

The sacrifice of Brigpol Muhammad Arif Maulana and Bripda Nelson Runaki is a reminder of the great risk faced by security forces in maintaining the safety of citizens and stability in Papua.

Currently, the two bodies have been handed over to the family for the funeral procession. Security officials continue to pursue the Armed Criminal Group led by Aibon Kogoya and strengthen security on the Trans Nabire-Paniai strategic route to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
