Papua Police and National Human Rights Commission Join Forces to Secure 2025 Revote

Jayapura, August 1, 2025 — Ahead of the 2025 Papua Governor and Vice Governor Revote, the Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua) and the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Papua Region have engaged in strategic coordination to ensure the democratic process runs safely while upholding human rights.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Rudolf Renwarin, S.H., M.Si., represented by Deputy Chief of Papua Police Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.I.K., S.Sos., M.H., received an official visit from the Komnas HAM Papua Regional Team led by Regional Chair Frits B. Ramandey, S.Sos., M.H., at the Cenderawasih Hall, Papua Police Headquarters in Jayapura City, Friday (August 1).

Also attending the meeting were several key Papua Police officials, including the Head of Operations, Directors of Criminal Investigation, Intelligence, Water Police, Community Development, and Cyber Crime Investigation.

In his remarks, Brig. Gen. Faizal emphasized the importance of a humanist approach to securing the revote.

“Papua has its own unique dynamics. That’s why we need an approach that is not only firm in law enforcement but also humanist and participatory,” said Brig. Gen. Faizal.

To secure the voting process across 2,023 polling stations (TPS), Papua Police will deploy over 3,000 police personnel, 720 military personnel, and nearly 5,000 community security officers (Linmas).

The Mantap Praja Cartenz II-2024 security operation has been underway since March 9 and will continue until August 22, 2025.

Meanwhile, Frits B. Ramandey, Chair of Komnas HAM Papua, stressed the importance of an inclusive voting process, especially for vulnerable groups.

“We’re ready to work together to ensure the revote respects every citizen’s voting rights, especially marginalized communities. Identity-based political tensions also need to be anticipated early,” he said.

Papua Police Head of Operations, Police Commissioner Selamet Topan, assured that election logistics are under full security supervision, even in remote areas.

“Securing the distribution of election logistics is a top priority. We’ll ensure each stage runs smoothly all the way to polling stations in remote regions,” he explained.

Papua Police Director of Criminal Investigation, Police Commissioner Achmad Fauzi, added that the constitutional rights of detainees are also being addressed, in accordance with the Final Voter List (DPT) for the revote.

“We’re making sure that eligible inmates listed in the DPT can still exercise their voting rights according to the applicable procedures,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Papua Police Spokesperson Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, S.I.K., M.K.P., urged the people of Papua to work together in maintaining public order and security, so that all stages of the revote, including the KPU plenary, can proceed smoothly and peacefully.

“Let’s safeguard this revote together. Public participation is crucial to ensure this democratic process runs safely and orderly,” he said.

The audience concluded with a joint commitment to continue strengthening coordination and communication between Papua Police and Komnas HAM Papua Region.

This synergy is expected to foster a democratic climate that is healthy, peaceful, and inclusive for all Papuans.
