Papua – The Provincial Government of Papua Tengah, through the Office of Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Encryption, collaborated with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BSSN RI) to strengthen the cybersecurity and encryption ecosystem within the regional government. The event took place on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, focusing on enhancing cybersecurity capacity and the importance of protecting digital data and information within the government sector.
Head of the Papua Tengah Communications and Informatics Office, Ham Nawipa, stated that the provincial government is currently pushing for the formation of a Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) in Papua Tengah. He emphasized that the existence of such a team is crucial as the front line in responding to cyber threats, especially in preventing data leaks and sabotage of the government’s digital systems.
“The government believes that a cyber and encryption team is necessary—one dedicated team to handle these issues, so data isn’t leaked or destroyed, especially in IT-related development,” Nawipa told reporters. He stressed that digital security systems must be built in line with the advancement of information technology infrastructure in the region.
This strategic initiative is considered essential, given the increasing reliance on digital systems in public services and the growing complexity of cyber threats. Through its collaboration with BSSN RI, Papua Tengah is expected to establish a strong cybersecurity defense structure while also raising awareness and enhancing the capabilities of government personnel in safeguarding the integrity of digital governance systems.
