Yahukimo, Papua — The Peace Operation Task Force (Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz) has made another breakthrough in law enforcement efforts in Papua. A 22-year-old man, Wanggol Sobolim, was successfully apprehended and interrogated in connection with two serious criminal acts that recently shocked Yahukimo Regency.
The interrogation, which took place on Saturday (July 26, 2025) at around 6:05 PM local time, was led by Police Officer Aipda Harianto Sitompul, S.H. During questioning, Wanggol confessed to being an active member of the armed criminal group (Kelompok Kriminal Bersenjata or KKB), known as Batalyon Sisibia, which he joined in 2022.
Wanggol admitted that he was the sole perpetrator of the murder of La Jahari, which occurred on January 30, 2025, on Jalan Gunung, Yahukimo. He also revealed his involvement, along with two accomplices—Ben Sobolim and Kasimbi Silak—in the assault of Agustinus Lambi, a water delivery driver, on May 2, 2025, in the Logpon KM 4 Social Housing Complex.
According to Wanggol, the attack followed a drinking session. The group threw stones at the victim, stabbed him, and stole his mobile phone before fleeing to the Braza River area to hide.
Head of the Peace Operation Task Force, Police Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the outcome of the interrogation is a crucial piece of evidence in uncovering the series of violent acts in the region. He reaffirmed that legal enforcement remains the cornerstone of efforts to ensure peace and justice in Papua.
“This interrogation proves our commitment to a legal approach. We will continue to investigate the involvement of other individuals named in this case and ensure that all perpetrators of crimes against civilians are brought to justice. There is no place for violence in Papua,” said Brig. Gen. Faizal.
He was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Operations, Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the Peace Operation Task Force, Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., highlighted the importance of public support in upholding the law. He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
“We are committed to transparency and accountability in every legal step we take. We also urge the community to support the creation of a peaceful and secure environment, especially in Yahukimo,” he stated.
With Wanggol Sobolim’s open confession and ongoing legal proceedings, the Peace Operation Task Force reaffirms its dedication to protecting the people of Papua from violent threats. Law enforcement will remain a top priority in creating a safe and conducive environment across the region.
