Paniai, Central Papua — A motorcycle taxi driver, Aris Munandar (28), was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon by unidentified individuals (OTK) while transporting a passenger in the Pasar Baru Waghete II area, Tigi District, Deiyai Regency, Central Papua, on Saturday morning (July 26, 2025). The victim is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) of Paniai Regency after sustaining serious injuries to several parts of his body.
Following the incident, personnel from the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 Paniai sector, in coordination with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), immediately monitored the victim’s arrival at the hospital to ensure proper medical handling. Among the personnel deployed were Bripda Kalep Matakupan, Bharaka Yanni Sialana, and Bharaka Jordan Mainassy.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim had transported a female passenger from the market to Pasar Baru Waghete II and was seen greeting locals by honking his horn. Shortly afterward, he was seen returning from the direction of the market, severely wounded and unconscious, collapsing in front of a local shop. He was quickly evacuated to Waghete II Hospital by nearby residents before being referred to the RSUD of Paniai Regency for surgery.
The victim sustained lacerations on both shoulders and stab wounds on his right hand, caused by an attack with sharp weapons by three unidentified young men riding a motorcycle. The assailants have yet to be identified and are currently under investigation.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that legal action will be taken professionally and proportionately against the perpetrators of violence against civilians.
“We strongly condemn the act of violence against innocent civilians. Our investigation team is already working to identify the perpetrators and determine whether the attack is linked to the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). At the same time, we are ensuring that the victim receives the best possible medical care. The security situation in the area is also being closely monitored,” stated Brig. Gen. Faizal.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not be provoked by the incident. He also appealed for community cooperation in providing any information regarding the perpetrators.
“We urge the public to stay alert and maintain a peaceful environment. If anyone has valuable information regarding this case, please report it to the authorities immediately. Community involvement is essential in fostering a sense of security,” said Chief Commissioner Yusuf.
The victim is still undergoing surgery and is not yet able to provide a statement. Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 remains committed to supporting the victim’s recovery and ensuring justice is served against those responsible for this violent act.
