Intan Jaya, Central Papua — A civilian named Joni Hendra was fatally shot by a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) at a kiosk in Kampung Wandoga, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at approximately 13:40 WIT. The suspect, identified as Yonial Kobogah, a KKB member under the leadership of Apen Kobogau, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force promptly responded and launched a pursuit operation to apprehend the perpetrator.
The incident occurred when the victim was serving betel nut buyers at his kiosk. Without any warning, the suspect approached from about seven meters away and fired a short-barreled firearm at the victim. After the attack, the suspect escaped toward the hills above Kampung Wandoga.
The victim was rushed to Bilorai Health Center at around 13:45 WIT but succumbed to his injuries due to the severity of the gunshot wounds. Fifteen minutes after the shooting, at 13:55 WIT, the Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force secured the crime scene and immediately initiated an intensive chase after the suspect.
The Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, accompanied by Deputy Operations Chief Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, stated that the suspect is believed to be part of the KKB faction led by Apen Kobogau, who is also suspected of involvement in a previous shooting incident at Bilorai Sugapa Airport.
“We strongly condemn this violent act and will not tolerate any armed groups threatening the safety of civilians. The task force has acted swiftly to pursue the suspect and will firmly deal with anyone disrupting Papua’s security,” Brigadier General Faizal emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Head of the Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force, Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, urged the community to remain calm, avoid provocation, and support law enforcement by providing any information that could assist in resolving the case.
“We call on the public to cooperate in maintaining security by reporting any relevant information about the suspect or the incident. The safety of our people is our top priority,” said Commissioner Yusuf.
Currently, the Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force, together with the Intan Jaya Police, continue to patrol the area and conduct thorough investigations to ensure the situation remains stable and to uncover the full details of the case.
