Civilian Killed in Yahukimo, Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force Probes Motive and Perpetrators’ Network

Yahukimo, Highland Papua —
A man identified as Andi Hasan (30) was found dead with multiple stab wounds at his home in the DPR Lama Housing Complex, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, on Thursday night (July 24, 2025) at approximately 8:10 PM Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).

The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force responded promptly after receiving a report via HT (handy talky) communication. The team immediately proceeded to the scene to conduct an initial investigation. By the time officers arrived, the victim had already been evacuated to Dekai Regional Hospital (RSUD) by local residents. Sadly, medical personnel declared him dead upon arrival.

A preliminary examination revealed that the victim suffered four stab wounds to the left side of his chest and one wound to the right side of his back. At the scene, officers secured several pieces of evidence, including a pair of sandals, a pair of shorts, and a t-shirt believed to belong to the victim.

According to a witness, the victim was inside his house when three unidentified individuals arrived. One of them, armed with a sharp weapon, stabbed the victim multiple times. The victim attempted to escape by running out of the house but collapsed shortly after. The witness then transported him to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operations, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that early findings indicate the attackers are strongly suspected to be affiliated with an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Elkius Kobak. This suspicion is supported by a social media post made by TPNPB-OPM spokesperson Sebby Sambom, who claimed responsibility for the killing and falsely identified the victim as an Indonesian military agent.

“That statement is a public lie and a clear act of disinformation. The victim was an ordinary civilian, not a member of the military or any state agency,” Brig. Gen. Faizal emphasized.

Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not be swayed by irresponsible information circulating on social media or spread by provocative groups.

“We call on the community in Yahukimo to stay vigilant but calm. Trust the authorities to handle this case professionally. Do not be provoked by baseless rumors, and report any information related to the perpetrators or the incident to the nearest security personnel,” he said.

As of now, the situation around the crime scene remains under control. The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, in coordination with the Yahukimo Police, continues to conduct regular patrols and intensive investigations to uncover the motive and bring the perpetrators to justice.
