Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force Arrests KKB Fugitive Roberth Wenda, Perpetrator of Police Shooting in Jayawijaya

Jayawijaya, Papua — The Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force has once again demonstrated its commitment to law enforcement against Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) in Papua. On Wednesday (23/7/2025), task force personnel successfully apprehended two KKB members in Jayawijaya Regency. One of them was Roberth Wenda, also known as Hesegem, a wanted fugitive and an escaped convict from Abepura Class IIA Prison.

Roberth was involved in the shooting of a Jayawijaya Police officer, Brigadier Marsidon Debataraja. The arrest was carried out in a measured operation based on thorough surveillance and cross-unit coordination, with no civilian casualties reported.

Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, accompanied by his deputy, Chief Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that this operation reflects the National Police’s (Polri) firm stance in maintaining security in Papua.

“The arrest of Roberth Wenda and his accomplice is the result of hard work and synergy among the task force members. This sends a clear message that there is no place for armed violence against security personnel or civilians. We will continue pursuing all remaining perpetrators until justice is served,” stated Brigadier General Faizal.

Both suspects are now detained at Jayawijaya Police Station for further interrogation. Relevant evidence has also been seized to support investigations into their involvement in armed violence.

Meanwhile, Chief Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., Head of Public Relations for Peace Operation Cartenz, urged the public not to be provoked and to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.

“We call on all citizens to remain calm and not be swayed by misleading propaganda spread by KKB sympathizers. The Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force is here to ensure safety, and we guarantee that every violent act will be thoroughly investigated. Report any information on other suspects,” urged Chief Commissioner Yusuf.

The National Police (Polri) reiterated that there will be no tolerance for those involved in violence, whether against state officials or civilians. Law enforcement will continue to ensure stability and order in Papua.
