Indonesian National Police Affirms: No Place for Traitors, Involvement with Armed Criminal Groups Will Be Prosecuted Firmly

Jayapura — The Indonesian National Police, through Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, reaffirmed its commitment to firmly act against anyone involved with Armed Criminal Groups (KKB), whether civilians or former members of the security forces. Law enforcement will be carried out indiscriminately to maintain security stability and uphold the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the Indonesian Police will not provide space for anyone who chooses to become part of an armed criminal group. He stated that involvement with the KKB is a serious violation of the law and constitutes an act of treason against the state.

“There is no compromise for violations of the law and acts of betrayal against the country. Anyone involved with the KKB—whether civilian, sympathizer, or a dismissed former officer—will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the applicable law. This is not merely about security, but about preserving the dignity of our nation,” asserted Brigadier General Faizal on Wednesday (23/7/2025).

One clear example of this firm stance is the legal process against Aske Mabel, a former dismissed member of the Indonesian Police who was proven to be involved in KKB activities and sentenced to eight years in prison by the Wamena District Court. According to Brigadier General Faizal, this is concrete evidence that the Police institution does not tolerate betrayal, even from within its former ranks.

“The prosecution of Aske Mabel sends a strong message that the Police will not protect anyone who acts against the state. Law enforcement must be fair and objective,” he added.

Head of Public Relation, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., added that the Police’s commitment to safeguarding security in Papua also reflects the spirit of maintaining peace and public trust.

“Anyone involved in Armed Criminal Groups—whether civilians or former dismissed officers—will be processed in accordance with the prevailing laws. There is no space for treason, especially when it endangers national security,” said Chief Commissioner Yusuf.

He emphasized that the legal process against Aske Mabel demonstrates the institution’s seriousness in maintaining integrity and commitment to the law. The Police stand firmly on the principles of justice and collective safety.

“We monitored the legal process of Aske Mabel until the eight-year prison sentence was handed down. This is evidence that our institution stands firm in safeguarding the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. Involvement in the KKB is a serious offense, and every perpetrator will face the law without tolerance,” he continued.

At the end of his statement, Chief Commissioner Yusuf also urged the public not to be easily provoked and to reject invitations from armed groups.

“We call on all Papuan communities to preserve peace and not be influenced by the incitements or propaganda of armed groups. Let us nurture the spirit of peace and the unity of Indonesia from our beloved Land of Papua,” he concluded.

Through Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, the Indonesian Police will continue to act professionally and consistently in maintaining security stability in Papua and ensure that every lawbreaker is prosecuted fairly, in pursuit of peace and prosperity for the people.
