Sorong, KBRN – The air quality in several regions of Southwest Papua is expected to remain in the “good” category over the next three days, from July 24 to 26, 2025. This forecast is based on data from the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) Station in Sorong, which monitors fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels.
Areas such as Sorong City, Sorong Regency, Raja Ampat, South Sorong, Maybrat, and Tambrauw are all reported to have low PM2.5 concentrations, ranging between 0 and 15.5 micrograms per cubic meter—well below the daily threshold limit of 55 µg/m³.
This indicates that the air remains safe for public health and is free from significant pollution sources.
Despite the favorable conditions, local authorities are urging the public not to become complacent. Open burning, which can quickly degrade air quality, is strongly discouraged.
“This level of clean air is a reflection of the community’s commitment to preserving the environment. It’s something we should continue to protect together,” stated a representative from the Sorong monitoring station.
Residents are encouraged to engage in environmentally responsible practices such as proper waste management, reducing vehicle emissions, and planting greenery—small steps that contribute to long-term air quality preservation.
With bright skies and clean air across Southwest Papua, residents can look forward to enjoying their daily routines in a healthier, more comfortable atmosphere.
