Biak Regency Government Needs Six SPPG Kitchens to Support Free Nutritious Meals Program

Biak, Papua (ANTARA) – The Biak Numfor Regency Government is preparing to implement the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, requiring six Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchens to cover the entire region.

Deputy Regent of Biak Numfor, Jimmy CR Kapissa, stated that four SPPG kitchen units have already been constructed in the initial phase. However, two additional kitchens are still needed to serve the island districts of Numfor, Padaido, and Aimando.

“We have submitted a request to the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Prof. Dadan Hindayana, to build two more SPPG kitchens in the island areas. The goal is to ensure quicker and more equitable access to the MBG program,” said Jimmy on Friday (July 19).

He emphasized that the MBG program brings significant benefits to improving students’ nutritional intake while also opening up employment opportunities for local residents.

“With the operation of the MBG kitchens, new jobs will be created, including cooks, sanitation staff, and logistics personnel. This will also boost the local economy through a food supply chain involving local businesses,” he explained.

The local government targets the MBG program to reach approximately 46,000 students across 19 districts, 14 urban villages, and 257 rural villages in Biak Numfor.

“The implementation of MBG will not only improve children’s health but also contribute to both local and national economic growth,” Jimmy concluded.
