Solo – Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has voiced his support for his son, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, being assigned to handle various issues in Papua. According to Jokowi, Papua holds a vital role in the future of Indonesia.
“Oh, that’s very good (for the Vice President to be assigned in Papua). Any region within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is important. Papua is the future of Indonesia,” said Jokowi in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, on Monday (July 14, 2025), as quoted by detikJateng.
Jokowi acknowledged that Papua still faces numerous challenges, including in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security. The former Mayor of Solo and Governor of Jakarta pointed out that similar issues exist across all provinces, though the severity varies.
“There are problems in every province. In the land of Papua, which I love, there are still many problems—whether in education, healthcare, infrastructure, or security,” he explained.
Regarding Gibran’s potential in addressing these issues, Jokowi left it to the public to assess.
“Well, we’ll see. When someone is assigned by the President, they must be ready, no matter where,” Jokowi concluded.
