Simultaneous Corn Planting, Central Papua Supports National Food Security

Nabire — The Vice Governor of Central Papua, Deinas Geley, attended the nationwide simultaneous corn planting event held virtually via Zoom Meeting. The event took place in Karadiri Dua Village, Wanggar Makmur District, Nabire Regency, on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2025.

This initiative is part of a national program aimed at strengthening food security and sovereignty across all regions of Indonesia. The simultaneous corn planting was carried out in response to a directive from the President of the Republic of Indonesia to all provincial governments.

In Central Papua, the planting was carried out symbolically by the Vice Governor along with local Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) representatives. The planting site was located in a social forest area that had previously been underutilized for agriculture.

The forested land is now being prepared for corn cultivation to support the national food security program. The planting was conducted together with the local Police Chief, Deputy Regent, Head of the District Attorney’s Office, and other Forkopimda members.

Vice Governor Deinas stated that this activity is a concrete response to the President’s instruction to boost national corn production, particularly to meet the increasing demand for animal feed as the livestock sector grows.

“The President has instructed all provinces to act quickly in supporting food security through simultaneous corn planting,” he said. Deinas emphasized that Central Papua is ready to play a significant role in strengthening national food resilience.

He also noted that the use of idle land will continue to be optimized through collaboration between the government and local farmers. Technical assistance and mentoring will be provided through the agricultural department and related agencies.

“We have fertile land and great potential—it just needs to be managed properly for corn and other food crops,” he added. The provincial government is committed to supporting farmers until they become self-reliant and can increase agricultural productivity in the region.

The corn planting was also attended by local farmer groups, vertical institutions, and representatives from the regency government. All parties expressed their commitment to supporting the success of the national food security program in Central Papua moving forward.
