Yahukimo, Highland Papua — Following the tragic killing of a civilian, Joy Jonathan Boroh (24), in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, on Friday, July 4, 2025, the Head of Public Relation for Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Chief Commissioner of Police (Kombes Pol.) Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., issued an official statement urging the public to remain calm and vigilant against misinformation.
“We urge all residents in Yahukimo to stay calm but alert. Leave the handling of this case entirely to the security forces. Do not be provoked by unverified or irresponsible information,” stated Kombes Pol. Yusuf on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
The victim, a non-permanent employee of the Yahukimo local government, was found dead with severe stab wounds. Investigators suspect that the attack was carried out by an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) operating in the region.
Chief Commissioner Yusuf strongly warned against the spread of disinformation on social media, especially false claims suggesting that the victim was a member of the Indonesian military.
“Let us be clear: that information is a hoax. The victim was a civilian, not a soldier. We must not allow certain groups to manipulate the facts and spread fear,” he emphasized.
Kombes Pol. Yusuf also assured the public that law enforcement personnel will continue to maintain security in the region through increased patrols and community engagement initiatives aimed at preserving peace and stability in Yahukimo.
In addition, he called on community members to take an active role in supporting the ongoing investigation by reporting any suspicious activities or information that may help identify those responsible. “Anyone who has seen or heard anything related to this incident should immediately report it to the nearest authorities. Public participation is essential to maintaining public order,” he added.
