Yahukimo, Highland Papua – Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 is currently investigating the brutal killing of a civilian, Joy Jonathan Boroh (24), which occurred in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua, on Friday, July 4, 2025, around 4:00 PM Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
The victim, a non-permanent staff member of the Yahukimo Regional Government, was found dead with multiple deep wounds caused by sharp weapons. Injuries were observed on the neck, armpit, chest, back, and palms—suggesting an intentional and violent attack.
Personnel from Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving an internal radio report from the Yahukimo District Police. The team arrived at approximately 4:28 PM WIT and promptly secured the crime scene before evacuating the body to Dekai Regional Hospital for identification and further investigation.
Items recovered at the scene include a Honda Beat Street motorcycle, a mobile phone, a pair of flip-flops, a motorcycle mirror, and other personal belongings of the victim. One witness has also provided an initial statement to assist the investigation.
The Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the case is being handled with utmost seriousness.
“We have deployed a dedicated team to Yahukimo to thoroughly investigate this incident. Law enforcement will be carried out to the fullest extent to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice,” Brigjen Pol. Faizal stated.
According to initial findings, the attack is believed to have been carried out by members of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Elkius Kobak. This suspicion was reinforced by a statement from Sebby Sambom, who claims to be the spokesperson of the TPNPB-OPM, posted on social media, falsely alleging that the group had successfully killed an Indonesian military personnel.
“That statement is a clear public deception. The victim was a civilian, not a soldier. He worked as an honorary employee in the Yahukimo local government,” Brigjen Faizal clarified.
The case remains under thorough investigation. A follow-up crime scene examination led by the Yahukimo District Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit was scheduled for Saturday, July 5, 2025, as part of efforts to collect further evidence and confirm the identity of the perpetrator(s).
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relation for Operation Peace Cartenz*, **Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., has called on the public to remain calm and not be swayed by irresponsible rumors or provocative content circulating online or spread by certain groups.
“We urge all residents of Yahukimo to stay calm and vigilant. Please trust the security forces to handle this case properly. Do not be misled by unverified information,” said Kombes Pol. Yusuf.
He also encouraged the public to participate in maintaining public order and security by reporting any information related to the incident or those responsible.
As of now, the situation around the crime scene remains secure. The Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 task force, in coordination with the Yahukimo District Police, continues intensive patrols and investigations to uncover the full motive and identity of the perpetrators behind this tragic event.
