DKPP Rejects Complaint Against KPU RI and South Papua KPU: Officials Deemed to Have Acted Professionally

Merauke, Tribun-Papua.com – Indonesia’s Election Organizers Honorary Council (DKPP) has decided to reject a complaint filed by a citizen named Burhanuddin against the General Elections Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia and the South Papua Provincial KPU. The complaint alleged ethical violations by election organizers during the Regional Head Election (Pilkada).

In a recent session announcing the ruling, DKPP found insufficient evidence to prove any ethical misconduct by the respondents. The council emphasized that both the national and provincial KPU had carried out their duties professionally and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

“Based on the facts presented during the hearing and the evidence submitted, the panel concludes that the respondents were not proven to have committed ethical violations as alleged by the complainant,” said the Chief Justice of the DKPP while reading the verdict.

Previously, Burhanuddin accused KPU RI and the South Papua KPU of actions allegedly violating principles of fairness and transparency in the Pilkada process. However, the arguments presented by the complainant were deemed legally insufficient to constitute evidence of ethical violations.

DKPP further stressed that election organizers must consistently uphold integrity, neutrality, and professionalism in carrying out their duties, including in all stages of regional elections. However, in this case, the council found no overstepping of authority or procedural violations by the KPU.

With this ruling, KPU RI and the South Papua KPU have been cleared of any ethical sanctions and can continue performing their duties without restriction. DKPP expressed hope that this decision would serve as a lesson for the public that every complaint should be supported by strong evidence and sound legal arguments.

“Election organizers are institutions whose credibility and integrity must be protected. Public oversight is crucial, but it must be based on facts and legitimate evidence,” the DKPP Chief Justice added.

As of this report, Burhanuddin, the complainant, has yet to issue an official response. Meanwhile, both KPU RI and the South Papua KPU stated their continued commitment to holding elections that are transparent, fair, and in line with democratic principles. (Yulianus Bwariat)
