Mimika Community Leader Urges Papuans to Unite for Security and Regional Development

Mimika, Papua — The Chairman of the Early Awareness Forum (FKDM) of Mimika Regency, Lucky Mahakena, S.Sos., M.Si., has called on all elements of society in Papua to unite in maintaining security and public order, emphasizing that these are the key foundations for promoting development and prosperity in the Land of Cenderawasih. His statement was delivered on Wednesday (June 25).

Lucky Mahakena, a respected community leader and academic from Papua, stressed that this is a crucial moment for Papua to rise and progress together, supported by strong affirmative policies from the central government.

“The government has provided significant support to Papua through initiatives in human resource development, infrastructure, and financial attention. Now is the time for us to respond to this trust by ensuring security, which is a primary indicator of progress in Papua,” he said.

According to Lucky, development cannot proceed optimally without security and stability. He emphasized the importance of synergy among all societal elements, including traditional leaders, local government officials (Forkopimda), and the TNI-Polri (military and police), in creating a conducive environment for the government’s strategic programs in eastern Indonesia.

“Let us join hands and realize that development can no longer be delayed. Papua must move forward and break free from underdevelopment. All of this is only possible if we ensure lasting peace and security,” he asserted.

Lucky also highlighted that Papua currently has a great opportunity to play a vital role in the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045. He noted that Papua’s abundant natural and human resources can be fully optimized if all parties unite in a spirit of peace.

“Papua can be a driving force behind Golden Indonesia. But there is one condition: we must maintain peace and security together. If Papua is secure, development will be more massive, more targeted, and communities will become more prosperous,” he added.

In conclusion, Lucky Mahakena issued a special appeal to community leaders across Papua to take the lead in maintaining social harmony in their respective regions. He expressed hope that this collective spirit could serve as positive energy in guiding Papua’s progress in the future.

“Let’s start with ourselves — protect our surroundings, our families, and our land. Our future depends on what we do today,” he concluded.
