Jayapura, Indonesia — June 20, 2025
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 continues to demonstrate its commitment to peaceful engagement in Papua by participating in a traditional Papuan bride-price ceremony (known locally as “emas kawin”) held by the Saireri-Serui community of Yapen Islands. The event took place in Tanjung Ria, North Jayapura District, and unfolded in an atmosphere of mutual respect and peace.
Members of the task force, including its Public Relations Unit, were present not only to provide security but also to actively participate in the cultural procession, signaling a deeper commitment to social cohesion and local tradition.
Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025 (Kaops), attended the ceremony alongside Deputy Head Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga. Brig. Gen. Faizal emphasized that cultural preservation is essential to community-based peacebuilding in Papua.
“This cultural ceremony serves as a platform to reinforce local identity and strengthen inter-ethnic brotherhood across Papua,” he said. “The presence of Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz in this region is not limited to law enforcement. We are equally committed to fostering peace and harmony in society through engagement with indigenous customs.”
Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, Head of Public Relation (Kasatgas Humas) for the task force, affirmed that cultural heritage remains a vital part of national unity.
“Traditional customs are the roots of our national life. When these roots are preserved, the tree of our unity will remain strong—even in the face of modern challenges,” he stated.
The event represents an evolving approach in Papua, where security personnel are increasingly engaging with communities through cultural diplomacy rather than relying solely on traditional enforcement methods. The task force’s participation underscores the belief that lasting peace in Papua must grow from mutual understanding, trust, and respect for local wisdom.
As Indonesia continues to work toward resolving long-standing tensions in Papua, Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025’s embrace of tradition is emerging as a meaningful tool for reconciliation and unity.
