JAKARTA – Intelligence and national security analyst Stepi Anriani stated that the armed separatist group, known as the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), has begun to lose public support in Papua, especially among Indigenous Papuans (OAP), following a series of violent attacks, including assaults on houses of worship such as churches.
She emphasized that KKB’s brutal actions, which openly target civilians—such as looting property, raping women, and forcing young villagers to join them—have increasingly disgusted the local population.
Stepi also highlighted reports that KKB leader Egianus Kogoya owns a marijuana plantation. According to her, this shows that KKB is not only engaging in violence but is also involved in illegal activities such as drug trafficking for the group’s personal gain.
“The public’s perspective has shifted. They no longer see KKB as freedom fighters, but rather as terrorists exploiting the people and land of Papua,” said Stepi on Saturday (June 14, 2025).
She added that KKB’s current actions reflect a clear form of terrorism rooted in ethno-nationalism, contradicting humanitarian values, religion, and human rights.
According to Stepi, KKB’s actions are not a form of resistance or liberation, but rather acts of violence against civilians and Indigenous Papuans themselves, tarnishing the image of Papua and Indonesia in the eyes of the international community.
