A Warm Afternoon at Torsina Elementary: When the Damai Cartenz Task Force Came for Mimika’s Children

Timika — The sun began to dip westward, gently casting its light over the courtyard of Torsina Elementary School in Mimika Regency. Beneath the clear afternoon sky, joy radiated from the innocent faces of children running and dancing with the wind, flying colorful kites. That afternoon, the usually quiet schoolyard, empty after lessons, transformed into a lively arena filled with laughter and cheer.

It was the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz 2025 from the Timika Post who came to bring new energy to the children at the school. They didn’t arrive in stiff uniforms or with serious expressions, but instead with warm smiles and friendly embraces. Starting at 5:00 PM local time, the task force personnel mingled with the children, playing ball, flying kites, and sharing milk and candies, all carefully prepared for the kids.

For the children of Torsina, the presence of these task force members was more than just afternoon entertainment. There was a warmth they felt, a rare closeness. They ran towards the officers, eagerly reaching out to hold their hands and innocently sharing their dreams and hopes.

Behind these simple moments lay an important message from the Head of Operation Damai Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., who was accompanied by Deputy Commander Kombes Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum.

In his message, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani said, “The humanist approach is at the heart of Operation Damai Cartenz. Through activities like this, we aim to be present not only as security enforcers but also as friends to the community. Building connections with children is an investment for the peaceful future of Papua.”

Echoing this, the Head of Public Relations Task Force for Operation Damai Cartenz, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., emphasized that similar activities continue to be carried out at various Damai Cartenz posts.

“We believe that the stronger the bond between law enforcement and the community, the stronger the public trust in the police will become across Papua. Humanitarian activities like this are expected to contribute to creating a safe and peaceful situation in the region,” he stated.

That evening, as the sun slowly set in Mimika’s western horizon, the spirit of friendship and peace flowed between the children and the task force personnel. It was more than just a social event — it was a seed of hope for a more peaceful, more harmonious, and brighter Papua in the future.
