Papua — A member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), who is also the nephew of Egianus Kogoya, the KKB leader in the Nduga area, identified as Pionus Gwijangge, a.k.a. Perampok Gwijangge, was killed in a shootout with the Law Enforcement Task Force of Operation Peace Cartenz-2025 in Pugima Village, Welalegama District, Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua.
The Chief of Operation Peace Cartenz, Police Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Chief of Operation Peace Cartenz, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that Pionus Gwijangge sustained a gunshot wound to the right chest, fell into a ravine, and died.
“His body has been evacuated to Wamena Regional General Hospital by ambulance and was then taken to Sinakma and brought to Woken Complex in Sapalek Village, Papua District,” said Brig. Gen. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
During the shootout, Egianus Kogoya’s group admitted that two of their members were missing. One of them has been identified as Pionus Gwijangge, a.k.a. Perampok Gwijangge, while the other has not yet been found and is suspected to have sustained a broken leg.
At the scene, authorities also seized two ounces of marijuana, allegedly belonging to Egianus Kogoya. Examination of Egianus Kogoya’s confiscated cellphone revealed photos and videos showing him at his marijuana plantation in Kurima District, Yahukimo Regency. The plantation is strongly suspected to be managed by Egianus Kogoya and his group, with the harvested marijuana already packaged for distribution.
According to forensic laboratory tests by Papua Regional Police, the seized evidence includes one package, one large plastic clip containing dried leaves, seeds, and stems, with a net weight of 216.59 grams, linked to the suspect Pionus Gwijangge, a.k.a. Perampok Gwijangge.
“It has been established that, besides leading the KKB group, Egianus Kogoya is also involved in cultivating and selling marijuana to fund the armed criminal group and to purchase weapons for the KKB,” Brig. Gen. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani explained.
He further added that additional ammunition was discovered at the evidence location, specifically in Maima Village, Asotipo District, Jayawijaya Regency. After investigation, authorities found 25 rounds of 9 mm caliber ammunition.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., urged the people of Papua, particularly in Jayawijaya, to remain calm and to fully entrust security matters to the authorities.
“Patrols are continuously being intensified to suppress KKB movements and prevent other illegal activities, including narcotics trafficking,” he concluded.
