Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati carried out a joint working visit to Nduga, Papua, on Saturday (June 7), with the aim of reinforcing the synergy between national defense and financial strength to support national stability.*
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense’s Information Bureau, the two ministers began their agenda by visiting the Tactical Command Post (Poskotis) of Infantry Battalion 733/Masariku to observe firsthand the security situation in this conflict-prone area.
This visit marks Sri Mulyani’s first time traveling to a conflict zone such as Nduga. During the visit, the delegation wore bulletproof vests as a standard safety measure in the high-risk area.
Before conducting field inspections, Sjafrie and Sri Mulyani received a situational briefing from the Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command III, Lieutenant General TNI Bambang Trisnohadi, covering operational developments and recent security dynamics.
The two ministers then greeted frontline troops and inspected military equipment readiness at the command post.
“The use of bulletproof vests during the activities in Kenyam highlights the serious security risks in the area,” stated the Ministry of Defense.
In addition to assessing field conditions, Sjafrie and Sri Mulyani engaged in dialogue with the Nduga Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimkab) and local community leaders as part of efforts to strengthen communication and coordination among key stakeholders.
The activities in Nduga concluded with an additional site inspection before the Defense Minister continued his working visit to Merauke.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that this joint visit represents a concrete form of inter-ministerial cooperation in safeguarding national sovereignty and strengthening national stability, especially in regions facing strategic security challenges.
The visit was also attended by top officials including the Chief of General Staff of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Deputy Army Chief of Staff, the Director General of Defense Planning, and several senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.
