Manokwari – Member of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR RI) from West Papua, Obet Rumbruren, has emphasized the importance of equitable access to education and healthcare for all communities in the region. Committed to bridging the communication gap between the people and the government, Obet strives to ensure the realization of free education and healthcare services.
“Access to quality education and healthcare is a fundamental need that the government must fulfill,” Obet stated during a public outreach event in Manokwari. He reiterated his determination to champion the rights of West Papuans to better services in these critical sectors.
The government has introduced the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG), designed to enhance the well-being of children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. This initiative represents a strategic effort to develop a healthier and more capable young generation in Papua.
A recent MBG awareness program held in Amban District, Manokwari, involved the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and various stakeholders. During the event, it was revealed that of the 16 planned nutrition kitchens in West Papua, only four are currently operational. These kitchens aim to serve thousands of beneficiaries in urban and remote areas alike.
Obet also expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts to extend the program to remote regions such as Masni District. “This demonstrates a genuine commitment to ensuring that all communities, even those in remote areas, benefit from this program,” he remarked.
Through his support for such initiatives, Obet envisions West Papua contributing significantly to Indonesia’s 2045 Golden Vision. “With a healthy and competitive younger generation, we are optimistic that West Papua will play a crucial role in the nation’s development,” he concluded.
