Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov Papua) and the Regional House of Representatives (DPR) have ensured that 70 percent of the workforce at the Papua Provincial Public Hospital (RSUP) will be made up of Indigenous Papuans (OAP).
Chairman of the Papua DPR, Denny Bonai, stated in Jayapura on Tuesday that this aligns with the mandate of Papua Provincial Regulation Number 4 of 2013 concerning labor administration.
“Based on the information we received, 529 workers have been accepted, but only nine of them are Indigenous Papuans (OAP),” he said.
According to Denny, his party will summon the management of RSUP or the vertical hospital authorities to further discuss this affirmative action policy.
“Although RSUP is a vertical hospital, Papua is a Special Autonomy (Otsus) region, so affirmative action must still be applied,” he explained.
He admitted that while the current 529 hired workers cannot be replaced, the remaining recruitment slots should be allocated specifically for OAPs. The upcoming meeting is aimed at encouraging real affirmative action in the healthcare recruitment system in Papua.
Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, also echoed similar sentiments, stating that the involvement of OAPs in the RSUP healthcare workforce must be a top priority.
“Therefore, I request that the remaining health worker recruitment slots be allocated to OAPs from across the Papua region,” he said.
Previously, a coordination meeting was held regarding the inauguration of the Papua Provincial Public Hospital (RSUP) by President Prabowo Subianto, which is scheduled for June at the Governor’s Office in Jayapura City, on Monday (June 2).
