Nabire, Central Papua — A total of 19 inmates escaped from Nabire Class IIB Prison, Central Papua, Monday (2/6/2025) around 11.00 WIT. From that number, 11 people are known to be part of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) from the Puncak Jaya, Puncak, and Paniai regions.
The escape action took place brutally. One of the inmates, Ardinus Kogoya, suddenly attacked the officer using a long machete that was allegedly hidden behind his back. The machete is suspected to come from a prison and is commonly used to cut firewood.
The attack caused three officers to be injured:
• Rahman (Ka Jaga), serious injury on the left index finger.
• Yan Nawipa (Kasi Kamtib), cut wound on the left hand.
• Jhosua Epimes (guard), injured on the right hand finger.
After paralyzing the officers, the prisoners escaped through the area behind the prison to the Government KPR complex and the hills. At the escape location, the discarded clothes of prisoners were found. Three of them were observed in the Oyehe Market area, Siriwini, and Marthadinata Street, Nabire.
As for the identity of the escaped prisoner as follows:
• KKB Puncak Jaya: Yotenus Wonda, Alison Wonda, Kogoya’s Away
• KKB Puncak: Alenus Tabuni, Junius Waker, Yantis Murib, Ardinus Kogoya, Pelinus Kogoya, Marenus Tabuni
• KKB Paniai: Anan Nawipa, Yakobus Nawipa
• Non-KKB: Agus Gobay, Yeheskiel Degei, Noak Tekege, Gimun Kogoya, Jenison Gobay, Roy Wonda, Andreas Tekege, Salomo Tekege
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faisal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H accompained Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum. stated that his party had mobilized a joint team to pursue.
“We will not tolerate this violent and escape, especially if it involves the KKB network. Our team together with the ranks of the Central Papua Regional Police and related agencies are currently continuing to pursue intensively. All escaped prisoners will be dealt with strictly according to the procedure,” said Brigadier General Faizal.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., appealed to the public to remain calm but vigilant.
“We appeal to the people in the Nabire area and its surroundings not to panic. If you see or know information related to the whereabouts of the prisoners, especially those affiliated with KKB, immediately report it to the nearest authorities or contact the call center of the National Police,” said Kombes Yusuf.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz ensures that security measures throughout Central Papua will continue to be improved to keep the situation safe and conducive, and currently the search for 19 escaped inmates is still ongoing.
