Jayapura Regency Strengthens Healthcare Access in Remote Areas by Building Hospitals

Jayapura – The Jayapura Regency Government has taken a significant step to improve healthcare access for communities in remote areas by initiating the construction of three type-D hospitals. This strategic move is expected to address the challenges of limited medical services in isolated regions.

Jayapura Regent Yunus Wonda revealed that the construction will begin in Unurumguay District, followed by Lereh and Airu Districts. “We aim to ensure that all residents, including those living in remote areas, have quick access to adequate healthcare facilities,” Yunus stated during his remarks on Friday (May 29).

The project in Unurumguay District utilizes a 12-hectare plot of land with a budget allocation of IDR 50 billion. The hospital is designed to provide essential healthcare and emergency services, reducing the risks associated with delays in medical treatment. The construction is targeted for completion within one year.

This initiative responds to long-standing concerns from residents who have had to travel long distances to Yowari Regional General Hospital in Sentani to receive medical care. Local communities have warmly welcomed the effort, expressing high hopes that the hospitals will significantly enhance their quality of life.

Victor Wopari, a local traditional leader, expressed his appreciation for the government’s policy. “This is a forward-thinking step for the well-being of people in remote areas. We fully support this program for a better future,” he said.

In addition to improving access, the newly built hospitals are expected to reduce mortality rates caused by delayed medical services, especially for pregnant women and children. This measure aligns with the Jayapura Regency Government’s vision to bring essential services closer to every corner of the region.

The type-D hospital construction project underscores the Jayapura Regency Government’s commitment to equitable healthcare services, ensuring that no resident is left behind in receiving medical care. “We are not only constructing buildings but also improving the lives of our people,” Yunus concluded.
