Wamena, Papua Highlands – May 22, 2025 — In a significant step toward empowering women in Papua, Yuliana Kobak, Chairperson of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) Movement of Papua Highlands Province, officially inaugurated eight new female leaders of regional PKK chapters across the province. The ceremony, held at the Baliem Pilamo Hotel in Wamena, was attended by Deputy Governor Dr. Ones Pahabol and other regional officials.  
The newly appointed leaders will head PKK organizations in eight regencies: Jayawijaya, Lanny Jaya, Tolikara, Yahukimo, Yalimo, Nduga, Mamberamo Tengah, and Pegunungan Bintang. These women are expected to spearhead community development programs focusing on family welfare, health, education, and economic empowerment.
“Women are the pillars of change,” said Kobak during her address, emphasizing the crucial role of women in shaping the future of Papua. She highlighted the importance of the PKK’s ten priority programs, which include maternal and child health, nutrition, education, and family economic resilience.
Deputy Governor Pahabol praised the PKK’s efforts, noting that the organization serves as a vital partner in implementing government programs at the grassroots level. He encouraged the newly appointed leaders to collaborate closely with local communities to address pressing social issues. 
The inauguration marks a renewed commitment to strengthening the role of women in Papua’s development. With these appointments, the province aims to harness the potential of women leaders to foster inclusive growth and social transformation.
