Indosat Brings AI to Papua, Boosting Education and Healthcare with Cutting-Edge Technology

Jayapura, Indonesia – Artificial intelligence (AI) has officially arrived in Papua with the launch of the Indosat AI Experience Center by Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison in Jayapura. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to ensuring that even Indonesia’s easternmost regions are not left behind in the digital era.

The new AI center is designed to deliver tangible benefits, particularly in education and healthcare—two critical sectors facing significant challenges in Papua.

Education: AI-powered personalized learning will enable students in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions to access quality education on par with major cities.

Healthcare: AI will accelerate disease diagnosis, including tuberculosis (TB), assisting understaffed medical facilities in remote areas.

Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, Nezar Patria, praised the initiative, stating, “This proves that digital transformation must be inclusive. Papua deserves the same opportunities to thrive in the technological age.”

Meanwhile, Vikram Sinha, President Director & CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, emphasized that technology should be a unifying force. “AI isn’t just for big cities. We want to ensure that Papuans also reap its benefits,” he asserted.

The project is supported by collaborations with global tech leaders Huawei and the Wadhwani Foundation, which provide state-of-the-art AI solutions to strengthen digital infrastructure in Papua.

Beyond cutting-edge AI technology, the center is powered by Indosat’s 5G network and features:

  • Digital training labs
  • AI-driven learning platforms
  • Collaborative spaces for students, professionals, and local communities

The facility is expected to nurture homegrown digital talent and drive tech-based economic growth in Eastern Indonesia.

This initiative is part of Indosat’s broader strategy to promote equitable digital transformation. By fostering local innovation and skills, the AI Experience Center aims to create new job opportunities and deliver lasting social impact for Papuan communities.

“We believe technology should be accessible to all. Papua is living proof of that commitment,” Sinha concluded.

With this AI hub, Papua is poised to compete in the digital age—demonstrating that technological progress can reach even the most remote corners of Indonesia.
