Mimika Community Leader Urges Papuans to Support Stability and Law Enforcement for a Peaceful Future

Mimika, Central Papua – Luky Mahakena, Chairman of the Mimika Community Early Awareness Forum (FKDM), has called on all Papuans to uphold peace, support development, and cooperate with security forces to ensure stability in the region. A respected academic and former rector of Timika University, Mahakena emphasized that security is essential for sustainable progress in Papua.

In his official statement on Friday (23/5), he urged communities across Central Papua and beyond to strengthen their commitment to maintaining order, stating that a stable environment is crucial for effective development.

“Peace is the foundation of progress. When security is ensured, development programs can advance, directly improving the welfare of our people,” Mahakena said.

He highlighted the vital role of community leaders in guiding the public away from provocation and violence while encouraging active participation in regional development.

However, Mahakena expressed concern over ongoing violence by Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) in Papua’s highlands, condemning attacks on civilians as both criminal acts and violations of international human rights.

“There is no justification for violence in a lawful nation like Indonesia,” he asserted.

Mahakena voiced full support for the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, urging all parties to back security forces in their efforts to protect civilians and dismantle armed groups.

“We endorse the professional and measured actions of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025. Law enforcement must prioritize civilian safety while operating within legal boundaries,” he stated.

He clarified that Papua remains under civilian governance, not military rule, stressing that police-led law enforcement should take precedence in resolving conflicts.

In closing, Mahakena appealed for unity, urging Papuans to embrace peace and development as part of Indonesia’s shared future.

“Papua is an inseparable part of Indonesia. Through unity and cooperation, we can build a safer, more prosperous future for all,” he concluded.
