35 Medals! Pegunungan Bintang Taekwondo Team Carves Outstanding Achievements at Papua Open 2025

OKSIBIL, May 8, 2025 — A proud achievement was earned by the Pegunungan Bintang Regency Taekwondo Team at the 2025 Papua Open Championship, competing for the Papua Governor’s Cup. In this prestigious provincial-level event, the team brought home a total of 35 medals: 17 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze.

With this result, the Pegunungan Bintang Taekwondo Team secured third place overall in the senior category. In addition, one of their female athletes was named Best Player in the cadet category—an individual accolade that adds to the team’s list of honors.

Upon returning to Oksibil, the athletes were warmly welcomed by local government officials and the community. During a welcome ceremony held at the Pegunungan Bintang Regent’s Office courtyard, the team presented the overall champion trophy to the Regent of Pegunungan Bintang, Spye Yan Bidan, S.T., M.Si.

“We are deeply grateful and proud of this outstanding achievement. These Taekwondo athletes have brought honor to our region and proven that we are capable of competing at the provincial level—even earning third place in the senior category,” said the Regent in his speech.

This success, he continued, is proof that the youth of Pegunungan Bintang have great potential in sports, especially taekwondo. He expressed hope that this accomplishment would motivate other young athletes to continue training and developing their skills. The 2025 Papua Open Championship itself was attended by hundreds of athletes from various regencies and cities across Papua Province, making it one of the most competitive taekwondo events in eastern Indonesia.
