Timika, May 17, 2025 — Two personnel of Operation Peace Cartenz-2025 who died in an attack incident by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Puncak Regency, Papua, have been successfully evacuated from the scene to Timika on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The two personnel who died were Briptu (posthumous) Dedi Tambunan and Bharatu (posthumous) Kain Rerei. Arriving in Timika, the body was immediately taken to the Mimika Hospital for further identification and handling, and accompanied by the family who were also presented to ensure that every stage was carried out transparently and respectfully.
After being laid to rest at Mako Brimob Battalion B Mimika as the last tribute, the military handover ceremony was held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, before the two were sent to their respective hometowns in Serui, Papua.
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., expressed his deep sorrow for the death of two of the nation’s best personnel.
“We lost the best soldiers who have been showing dedication and high loyalty in maintaining security in Papua. May the late Briptu Dedi Tambunan and Bharatu Kain Rerei get the best place in the side of the One and Only God. Their sacrifice is an honor for the institution and the nation,” said Brigadier General Faizal.
He also emphasized the commitment of Operation Peace Cartenz to continue to carry out its duties and take firm action against any security disturbances carried out by KKB.
“We will not back down. The task of keeping Papua safe is a trust that we must carry to the end. We will continue to pursue the perpetrators,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Chief Commissioner of Policw Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., invites all Papuan people not to be provoked and still maintain a conducive situation.
“We appeal to all people to stay calm, not easily affected by information whose source is not clear. Let’s keep Papua peaceful together. We will always convey official information periodically,” he said.
