Nabire, Central Papua — Two members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) who were involved in the brutal murder of Josep Agus Lepa were successfully paralyzed by Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 personnel in a law enforcement operation in Siriwo District, Nabire Regency, Friday (5/16/2025).
The two perpetrators known as Ham Dumupa (25) and Amoye Pigai alias Martinus Pigai, fought fiercely when they were about to be arrested. They attacked officers using sharp machete-type weapons, forcing the officers to take firm and measured action. Both of them were finally paralyzed and died on the way to the Nabire Hospital.
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that the action was the result of the intelligence and law enforcement process against the perpetrators of armed violence that had been troubling the community.
“The two perpetrators were part of the KKB who were directly involved in the murder of a civilian. When they were about to be arrested, they attacked the officers. Therefore, paralysis action was carried out in accordance with the operation protocol,” he explained.
From the location of the prosecution, the officers secured a number of evidence, including 11 rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition, two machetes, a mobile phone, and the perpetrator’s identity documents. The results of further examination showed that the two had a relationship with KKB Kodap XI Odiyai-Dogiyai under the command of Yonatan M. Pig.
The police also found photos of the perpetrator’s involvement with other armed groups, including holding firearms, which showed that both of them were active in armed activities and not just sympathizers.
Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., explained that the paralysis of this perpetrator is part of the strategy of emphasis on armed networks that have often carried out acts of terror against residents and public facilities.
“We put forward a persuasive approach, but when facing a direct threat to the safety of officers and the community, decisive action is inevitable. We hope this step gives a clear message that there is no place for violence in Papua,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf.
The police asked the public not to be easily provoked by false information that may be spread by KKB sympathizers. The identification and investigation process continues to be carried out transparently.
The bodies of the two perpetrators are now at RSUD Nabire for further identification process and will be handed over to the family according to the procedure.
