Puncak Jaya, Mulia – Two personnel of the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2025 were reported killed in a gunfire exchange with an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Usir Village, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Thursday (May 15).
The two fallen personnel were identified as Police Brigadier Dedi Tambunan and Police Second Brigadier Raymon Rerey. Both were active members of the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2025.
The Head of Cartenz Peace Operation 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operations, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated, “The perpetrators are suspected to be members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). Both victims were evacuated to Mulia Regional General Hospital (RSUD), but were declared dead upon arrival. Currently, their bodies remain at the RSUD Mulia in Puncak Jaya Regency,” said Brig. Gen. Faizal.
The gunfire exchange reportedly occurred in Usir Village. Residents in the vicinity said they heard gunshots coming from the direction of the village.
In response to the incident, the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2025 immediately deployed personnel to the scene and launched a pursuit of the perpetrators. Joint security forces are currently conducting sweeps in the surrounding area to secure the situation.
The Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the people of Puncak Jaya to remain calm, avoid provocation, and support the law enforcement efforts of the authorities.
“We urge the public not to be easily influenced by unverified information and to continue maintaining public order and security,” he stated.
