Religious Leader in Papua Supports Law Enforcement Efforts by Cartenz Peace Task Force

Jayapura— Prominent Papuan religious leader, Rev. Dr. Yones Wenda, has expressed full support for the Cartenz Peace Task Force 2025 in its efforts to uphold the rule of law against armed criminal groups (KKB) and political criminal groups (KKP) in Papua.

This statement was delivered on Monday (May 12) in Jayapura. Rev. Wenda urged members of KKB and KKP to cease all violent actions, which have caused numerous casualties, including among civilians, educators, and healthcare workers.

“I plead with armed groups still committing crimes in Papua to stop these acts of violence. Papua can be peaceful, and people can carry on with their lives calmly if we all preserve this peace together,” Rev. Wenda stated in a video message.

He emphasized that those responsible for criminal acts must face legal consequences to safeguard Papua’s future and the safety of its people.

In particular, Rev. Wenda called on all societal elements—including religious leaders, tribal leaders, youth leaders, and church leaders—to support efforts to maintain security and stability, paving the way for a peaceful and orderly Papua.

He also cited a moral foundation from Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder,” as a reminder to end violence immediately.

“To my brothers in KKB, remember that killing is forbidden by the Word of God. Those who kill will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven,” he stressed.

This statement highlights the ongoing role of religious leaders in Papua in promoting peace and supporting law enforcement amid the conflicts persisting in the region.
