Timika, Central Papua – PT Freeport Indonesia’s commitment in supporting the health sector is again realized through the delivery of 6,000 doses of Qdenga vaccine, a vaccine for the prevention of Dengue Fever (DBD), to the Mimika Regency Government (Pemkab), Central Papua.
The symbolic handover was carried out by the Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Claus Wamafma, to the Regent of Mimika, Johannes Rettob, at the BLUD of the Kwamki Health Center, Timika.
Claus Wamafma said that this donation is part of the company’s social responsibility in helping local governments prevent the spread of vulnerable diseases from increasing in the rainy season. He emphasized, PT Freeport Indonesia not only plays a role in the mining sector, but also becomes an active partner in regional development, especially in the health sector.
“We continue to be committed to be a strategic partner of the Mimika Regency Government, not only in the health sector, but also in the field of education, infrastructure, and community empowerment. We hope that the provision of this vaccine can help reduce dengue cases in Mimika,” said Claus.
Meanwhile, Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob expressed his high appreciation for the contribution of PT Freeport Indonesia. According to him, this vaccine assistance will greatly help the dengue prevention program that continues to be encouraged by the Mimika Regency Government through the Health Office.
“We would like to thank PT Freeport Indonesia for their real support. We will immediately distribute this vaccine through health facilities for people in need. This is a good form of collaboration in maintaining the health of Mimika residents,” said Regent Johannes.
The local government through the Mimika Health Office said that the Qdenga vaccine will be prioritized for vulnerable age groups, including children and the elderly, to prevent complications due to dengue virus infection which can be fatal if not treated early.
The delivery of this vaccine also marks the strengthening of synergy between the private sector and the government in providing equitable and sustainable health services for all Mimika communities.
