Jayawijaya Donates 122.5 Hectares on Mount Susu for Papua Pegunungan Governor’s Office

WAMENA – The Jayawijaya Regency Government has officially donated 122.5 hectares of land to the Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government for the development of the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of the new province.

The land, located in the Mount Susu area, was formerly used as a biological garden by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). The handover was marked by the signing of a grant agreement between Papua Pegunungan Governor John Tabo and Jayawijaya Regent Athenius Murib.

The event was witnessed by members of the local parliament (DPRD), traditional leaders, customary landowners, and regional government officials during a meeting held at the Jayawijaya Regent’s office on Thursday (May 8, 2025).

Governor John Tabo welcomed the land donation as a significant step toward realizing the development of the new provincial government center.

“With this signing, we have officially and legally received the 122.5 hectares of land, complete with signed documents. This site will serve as the government center, and we will immediately report to the Ministry of Home Affairs that the land for KIPP is ready,” Tabo stated.

He added that for the past two years, the search for a suitable location had reached a stalemate. However, with cooperation and support from various parties, a breakthrough was finally achieved.

“Previously, the land status was uncertain. Today, everything is clear, and we are ready to build,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jayawijaya Regent Athenius Murib emphasized that this land donation reflects the strong commitment of the local government to support the development of Papua Pegunungan as a new province.

“This land was previously a regional asset used by LIPI. However, following the governor’s proposal, we agreed to designate it as the KIPP location. This is a tangible step from the regional government to accelerate development,” Murib explained.

The land handover marks a significant milestone for the future of Papua Pegunungan, paving the way for the construction of a representative and sustainable government infrastructure.
