Puncak Jaya Government Supports High School Graduates to Pursue Higher Education

Puncak Jaya, May 8, 2025 – The Regency Government of Puncak Jaya has reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting education for its youth. Despite the challenging post-election security situation, the government is ensuring that high school graduates receive the necessary assistance to continue their education at various universities across Papua and beyond.

During a meeting held at the Puncak Jaya Regent’s Office in Mulia on Wednesday (May 7), Acting Regent Yopi Murib, SE, MM, announced the provision of transportation for graduates to register at universities in Jayapura, Nabire, Timika, and Wamena.

“We do not want the current circumstances to delay the future of our children. The government is committed to facilitating their needs, from transportation to the processing of essential administrative documents such as ID cards, health certificates, and police clearance letters,” said Yopi Murib while addressing the students gathered at the regency office courtyard.

The Acting Regent also expressed pride in the remarkable achievement of a 100% graduation rate for Puncak Jaya’s high school students, which was announced on May 5, 2025. He attributed this success to the dedication of teachers and the students’ determination to prioritize education despite the ongoing challenges.

“We deeply appreciate the teachers who tirelessly supported and guided our students. They have demonstrated that education remains a top priority, even amid adversity,” he added.

In addition to educational support, the Puncak Jaya Government continues its efforts to foster peace between the two factions of post-election candidate supporters following the Constitutional Court’s ruling on May 5, 2025. A follow-up meeting between the two groups is scheduled for Thursday (May 8) to expedite the creation of a more peaceful and conducive environment.

Jhon Ibo Wonda, a representative of high school graduates, expressed his gratitude to the Acting Regent and his team for their unwavering support. “The transportation and free administrative services provided by the government mean a lot to us. It greatly helps us in pursuing higher education,” he said.

Community leader Jefry Telenggen also commended the government’s efforts, emphasizing the long-term benefits of education for the region. “As parents, we hope these young people return to Puncak Jaya with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of our region,” he remarked.

This initiative has garnered support from various institutions, including the Department of Education, Civil Registry Office, Police Department, and Bank Papua, ensuring a smooth process for the students.

Through these collaborative efforts, Puncak Jaya’s young generation is expected to achieve higher education while inspiring peace and progress in their homeland.
