Papua Provincial Government Delivers Aid to Flood Victims in Mamberamo Raya

Jayapura – The Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, led the distribution of humanitarian aid to residents affected by the recent floods in Mamberamo Raya Regency, which have been ongoing for the past three weeks. The aid was symbolically handed over on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Jayapura Port.

The devastating floods have paralyzed the local economy, leaving the affected community in urgent need of emergency relief. To address this, the provincial government promptly dispatched various essential supplies to support the disaster-stricken population.

“This aid is not just about delivering goods, but a tangible expression of the government’s commitment to assist in the recovery of the affected communities,” stated Ramses Limbong during his remarks.

The aid provided to the flood victims includes:

  • 9 tons of rice from the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs,
  • 2 tons of food packages from the Papua Provincial Government, containing cooking oil, instant noodles, sugar, tea, and coffee,
  • 4 tons of rice from the Department of Plant Food, Horticulture, and Agriculture,
  • 1,300 mosquito nets, and 5,000 boxes of malaria medication for adults and children,
  • 50 delivery packages, along with medical personnel from the Department of Health,
  • 50 tarps provided by the Papua Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD),
  • Milk and supplementary food for infants and pregnant women, provided by the Papua Provincial PKK (Family Welfare Movement).

Ramses Limbong has also scheduled a visit to Kasonaweja District, Mamberamo Raya Regency, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. This visit will allow him to ensure that the aid has reached the people effectively and to discuss post-disaster recovery plans with local authorities.

The collaboration between various government sectors and related organizations emphasizes a coordinated and swift response to the disaster. In addition to material aid, the government is also planning rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts to help the community recover and rebuild their lives after the flood.
