Provincial Government Commits to Accelerating Inclusive Development in Papua

Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government, together with nine regencies and municipalities in the region, has committed to accelerating inclusive development, which is crucial for improving community welfare, reducing inequality, and boosting economic growth.

Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai, in Jayapura on Wednesday, expressed hope that the approved development programs would proceed smoothly.

“Although the physical condition of Papua Province has experienced a decline, welfare programs for the community must continue,” she said.

She explained that the regional development planning forum (Musrenbang) is a strategic activity to ensure that local policies genuinely address the actual needs of the community.

“This event resulted in 90 proposed programs, of which 40 were not recommended and 50 were approved,” she stated.

She added that the 50 recommended programs will later be submitted at the national-level Musrenbang.

“These 50 proposed programs all focus on a ‘Healthy, Smart, and Productive Papua’,” she said.

Acting Head of the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Baperida) of Papua, Jimmy AY Thesia, stated that the results of the Musrenbang for the 2026 Papua Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) and Special Autonomy (Otsus) remain aligned with the “Healthy, Smart, and Productive Papua” vision to ensure inclusive development continues.

“This is particularly focused on two economic sectors centered in the Saereri customary territory, namely Biak Regency, and the green economy in Mamberamo Raya and Keerom,” he said.

The Musrenbang for the 2026 RKPD and Special Autonomy was officially closed by Acting Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Suzana Wanggai, at the Sasana Krida Hall, Papua Governor’s Office, on Wednesday.
