YAHUKIMO Indonesian military and police forces (TNI-Polri) are intensifying their pursuit of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) believed to be responsible for a deadly attack on mining workers in Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, April 6, 2025, resulting in the deaths of several civilian workers who were engaged in mining activities in the remote area.
The group suspected of carrying out this brutal act is led by Elkius Kobak, a known figure within the KKB who has frequently been involved in violent acts and security disturbances across the Papua region. Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, stated that joint personnel from the Peace Cartenz Task Force are currently en route to the scene. Their mission is to evacuate victims and comb the surrounding area to secure the location and track down the perpetrators.
“Joint forces are currently heading to the location to carry out the evacuation and pursue the perpetrators,” Brig. Gen. Faizal explained.
Access to Seradala District is notoriously difficult due to its rugged and remote terrain, compounded by extreme weather conditions that often hamper movement on the ground. Nevertheless, the TNI-Polri remain committed to continuing the operation until the culprits are captured and the area is fully secured.
Local authorities and security forces have urged residents to stay calm and vigilant, and to immediately report any suspicious activity that may be linked to the presence of armed groups. This tragedy has drawn national attention and adds to the growing list of violent acts committed by separatist groups in Papua, which continue to endanger civilians and disrupt regional stability.
As of the latest update, evacuation efforts are still ongoing, and security forces remain determined to fully investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
