Jayapura – Heavy rainfall has affected the areas of Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, and Sarmi Regency over the past two days. In response to this situation, the Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, has urged residents to remain vigilant against potential floods and landslides, especially as the long Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri holiday approaches.
“We must stay alert to the risk of floods and landslides, particularly for those living in vulnerable areas,” Ramses said in a statement received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (April 1, 2025).
Ramses emphasized the importance of ensuring home safety while traveling and staying cautious about possible disasters caused by extreme weather conditions.
“Enjoy the long holiday, but remain vigilant if you leave your home,” he stated.
With heavy rainfall continuing, Ramses also urged residents to stay updated with weather information provided by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
“Always pay attention to updates from BMKG to anticipate potential risks,” he added.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take preventive measures to ensure their safety during the upcoming holiday period.
