Jayapura – The Papua Regional Police, through the Field Readiness Unit (UKL II), assisted in securing and handling a fire incident that occurred on Serui Street, Dok 8, North Jayapura.
The fire, which broke out at the home of Istiani Pati, a 43-year-old resident, severely damaged parts of the house and caused significant material losses. Thanks to the quick response of local residents and the police, the fire was successfully extinguished without any casualties.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started when Jonita Ngaderman and Ronaldus Ngaderman saw flames consuming a sofa in the living room of Istiani’s house. They immediately shouted for help and assisted the homeowner in trying to put out the growing fire. At 1:48 PM WIT, UKL II received a report about the fire and quickly rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival at the scene, the UKL II police team coordinated with residents and the Fire Department to secure the location and evacuate any salvageable belongings. The fire, which had briefly intensified, was successfully brought under control, and by 2:30 PM WIT, it was fully extinguished. The situation in the area was declared safe and under control.
North Jayapura Police Chief, Adjunct Police Commissioner Rudi Frishan, who led the UKL II team, emphasized the important role of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in ensuring security and assisting with the evacuation to prevent further risks.
“We were present to ensure that the situation remained safe, as well as to assist residents and relevant authorities in extinguishing the fire and securing belongings,” said the Police Chief.
According to the homeowner, Istiani Pati, the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the police will continue their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) hopes that with a swift response and collaboration between the community and security forces, fire incidents can be quickly handled, ensuring the safety and peace of local residents.
