Yahukimo — Personnel from the Law Enforcement Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz 2025 carried out evacuation and crime scene investigation (CSI) following an attack on honorary teachers and health workers, as well as the burning of public facilities in Anggruk District, Yahukimo Regency, on Monday (March 24).
The CSI was conducted at three main locations: the residential complex of Advent Elementary School teachers in Anggruk, the Efata Angguruk Hospital building, and the school where classrooms were vandalized. The joint team also evacuated several injured and deceased victims from the scene to Efata Hospital and subsequently to Dekai, Yahukimo.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General (Pol) Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, accompanied by the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2025, Commissioner (Pol) Adarma Sinaga, explained that the CSI is a crucial part of the Scientific Crime Investigation process to uncover the facts behind the criminal incident.
“Crime scene investigation is carried out to shed light on a criminal event as part of Scientific Crime Investigation. This allows us to gather evidence and witness statements on the ground to determine how the incident happened and who the perpetrators are. The CSI results will serve as the foundation for further investigation,” said Brigadier General Faizal.
According to the CSI findings, the incident took place over two consecutive days, Friday (March 21) and Saturday (March 22). The group of around 15 perpetrators attacked honorary teachers with sharp weapons, burned down two teacher housing units, vandalized seven school classrooms, and assaulted and killed a teacher named Rosalia Rerek Sogen.
The deceased victim was found with severe injuries, including a deep cut on the neck, stab wounds on the waist, and an open fracture on the arm. Meanwhile, seven other victims sustained serious and minor injuries due to assaults with sharp weapons.
The Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Damai Cartenz 2025, Commissioner (Pol) Yusuf Sutejo, urged the public to remain calm and not be provoked by issues that could escalate the situation. He also called for active cooperation from the public in reporting critical information regarding the perpetrators.
“We urge the people of Yahukimo and the surrounding areas to stay vigilant, not be provoked, and immediately report any information on the whereabouts of the perpetrators. Public participation will greatly help in maintaining a safe and conducive environment,” said Commissioner Yusuf.
During the operation, the joint team managed to collect several pieces of evidence, including shards of glass, burned machetes and knives, as well as charred building materials. Several witnesses have also provided statements to support the investigation.
As of now, personnel from Operation Damai Cartenz continue to maintain intense security and monitoring in Anggruk District to anticipate potential security disturbances. The police reaffirm their commitment to being present and protecting the people in the Papua highlands from acts of violence.
