Competition Officially Kicks Off
The Papua Highlands League 4 officially kicked off at Stadion Pendidikan, Wamena, on Saturday (3/22/2025), inaugurated by the Acting Governor of Papua Highlands, Velix Wanggai, who also serves as the Chairman of the National Sports Committee (KONI), alongside the Chairman of the Papua Highlands Provincial Football Association (PSSI), Atenius Murib. This tournament serves as a proving ground for young football talents in the region, competing for a promotion ticket to a higher level.
Among the eight competing teams, Persigubin stands out as a formidable contender. The team has undergone extensive training camps in Wamena, sharpening its strategies in multiple friendly matches. Their dominant 6-0 victory against Lino Cenggo FC last week (3/16) further proves their sharpness ahead of the tournament.
Persigubin in Full Readiness
Under the command of Head Coach Agung D. Atmojo, who previously led Papua’s women’s football team to a gold medal at the 20th National Sports Week (PON XX), Persigubin is now 90% ready for their opening match. With a solid squad, top physical condition, and an increasingly synchronized playing style, they are prepared to face tough competition in Group B.
The team has also received strong support from the Pegunungan Bintang Regional Government. Deputy Regent Arnold Nam personally traveled to Wamena to motivate the players, praising the management’s hard work. He emphasized that Persigubin is not here just to participate but to compete and prove their worth.
A Fierce Battle in Group B
The group stage draw has placed Persigubin in Group B alongside Persikimo FC, Waena United, and Toli FC. The battle in this group is expected to be fierce, as each team is determined to advance further in the competition.
However, with unwavering determination, a well-prepared strategy, and full support from the community, Persigubin remains confident heading into every match. They are not here just to play but to create a new legacy for Pegunungan Bintang football.
